Ghost in the Shell
Chenyee, NG

The setting for this piece is the soundtrack of a futuristic Japanese animation movie with the same title by Kenji Kawai. The three themes 'Making of a Cyborg', 'Ghost City' and 'Reincarnation' do not appear chronologically in the piece but rather are presented as a complete set. The main focus of the music is on the note clusters and chant-like melodies, which are also featured prominently in the soundtrack. Written in a rondo form, the arrangement brings back the main theme, which is heard three times, each with subtle differences from the previous rather than stark differences. This is to remain true to the tradition of subtlety in the movie itself, which is produced using a combination of computer rendered animation, airbrushing and watercolours for its medium.
