Calling all young composers! Here is your chance to have your music performed by The Philharmonic Winds.

We are conducting an open call for young composers aged 35 and below. All submissions should be new and original compositions for wind orchestra that have not been performed before.

An international panel of judges will evaluate the submitted works and select three to be performed at the “Singapore Compose!” concert at the Esplanade.

The three composers whose works are selected will also receive an honorarium of $1000.

The Concert

As part of our 10th Anniversary celebrations, The Philharmonic Winds will be presenting a unique concert of Singaporean music.

Audiences will get to hear the world premieres of new works for wind orchestra by Singapore composers such as Zechariah Goh Toh Chai, Robert Casteels, Ho Chee Kong, Kelly Tang and Wong Kah Chun, commissioned by The Philharmonic Winds.

The three selected young composers will have opportunities to learn from established composers like Zechariah Goh Toh Chai and Kelly Tang.

INSTRUMENTATION

All composers who are interested to submit their works for SINGAPORE COMPOSE! have to compose based on the following instrumentation:

Optional instruments include: Eb Alto Clarinet, Eb Contra Alto Clarinet, Bb Contra Bass Clarinet, Cor Anglais, Soprano Saxophone, Contra Bassoon, Harp and Piano. Composers who wish to include additional instruments in their compositions must inform the orchestra.

All interested composers are to register with The Philharmonic Winds.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The duration of the composition should not exceed 8 minutes.

All submissions should be done via hard-copy and soft-copy.

Four sets of scores should be printed: One set with the composer’s name, the other three without, and mailed to:

PDF files generated by notational software are to be emailed to nicholas@philharmonicwinds.org.

Composers should submit a brief synopsis of the music.

The names of the judges, which include international composers and conductors, will be made known only after the selection process.

To ensure fairness during the selection process, the panel will select the three works to be performed, through a blind audition process.

The Philharmonic Winds will inform all composers of the outcome of the selection. The decision of the panel is final.

All entries must be received by 23 January 2010.
