One of the leading baritones of
the Netherlands, Dutch singer Maarten Koningsberger. has appeared
internationally in operas by Debussy, Monteverdi, Mozart, Offenbach, Menotti,
Maderna, Poulenc, Rameau, Strauss and others.
He has also worked with conductors like Jeffrey Tate, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Hans Vonk, Lucas Vis, William Christie, Arnold Östman, Ed Spanjaard, Ton Koopman and Reinbert de Leeuw. This wide range of styles is also representative for his Lieder interpretations.
Maarten Koningsberger has toured extensively throughout Europe, with successful performances in venues like the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Vredenburg in Utrecht, the Wigmore Hall in London, the Middle-East, South-America and South Africa and gained a great reputation in this field through his recitals with accompanists such as Irwin Cage and Graham Johnson.
His many recordings, for example the Schubert songs for Hyperion were received by critics with great acclaim. Other recordings include lute and consort songs (Byrd, Dowland, Wigthorpe), Baroque Cantates (Campras and Van Blankenburg), opera and oratoria ('Les Grand Motets de MondonvilleEwith Les Arts Florissants).
Recently Maarten Koningsberger has been involved in the following productions: The rescue of Penelope with the Radio Philharmonic at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Stravinsky's Pulcinella with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Purcell's King Arthur (Holland Festival in the Netherlands), and in Monteverdi's 'Orfeo (Tour through the Netherlands, amongst the venues was Careéin Amsterdam).
Maarten Koningsberger has worked with orchestras like The Residentie Orchestra (The Hague), The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, The Netherlands Philharmonic, The Radio Philharmonic, The Radio Chamber Orchestra, Les Arts Florissants, I Fiamminghi (Belgium), Nieuw Sinfonietta Amsterdam, Combattimento Consort Amsterdam and Tafelmusic and with The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
Future engagements include Matthäs Passion and Die Schöne Mullerin in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, a release of the CD-recording with Die Winterreise in December, the Italiänisches Liederbuch in London.
