Jian Qing is a talented Yangqin performer from China. She is a member of
the Cimbalon World Association, a Honourary Executive Member of China
Traditional Music Society Yangqin Professional Committee and is currently
the yangqin Sectional Principal of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra.
At the age of thirteen, Qufs excellent music achievements gained her admittance into the prestigious Shanghai Chinese Orchestra. She was later appointed as a soloist and the Yangqin Principal. She studied under the tutelage of Professor Xiang Zu Hua, Pang Bo Er and Zhang Xiao Feng. She bagged awards including the title of New Celebrities of Shanghai in 1980; Outstanding Youth Performer of Shanghai in 1981; Performing Awards in the 1982 China National Chinese Music Instrumental Exchange Program; and Outstanding Performance Award in the 1991 Spring of Shanghai.
Qu owns the distinction of having performed several Yangqin music composition premieres. She has also recorded several solo albums.
She has performed widely in China, as well as France, Greece, Yugoslavia, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia and Taiwan. In 1993, she held a solo recital and won acclaim. Qu has represented Singapore to perform in the 4th and 5th International Yangqin Conference in Belarusi and Moldova in 1997 and 1999 respectively. Her performances had been widely covered by the media.
Qufs performing technique is skillful, rich in rhythm and sweet in tone. She has combined the traditional Yangqin performance with the technique of seniors and elevates Yangqin performing skills to new heights.
