Roeland Dujine
Roeland
Duijne began to play the cello at the age of nine. He studied with Tibor de
Machula, Anner Bijlsma (Royal Conservatory of The Hague), Maurice Gendron (Paris
Conservatory) and Janos Starker (Indiana University, Bloomington).
He
made his official debut in 1984 as soloist in Elgarfs Cello Concerto on a
nation-wide tour of Holland with the National University Orchestra. This was
followed by numerous performances, many of them televised, at home and abroad.
Roeland Duijne
performed with the Ensemble Intercontemporain conducted by Pierre Boulez.
He is a member of the Quintette de Paris, with which he played throughout
France. For the past few years he has been Principal Cellist of the Irish
Chamber Orchestra.
Several
tours have taken him to the Far East; he appeared as soloist with the Symphony
Orchestras of Shanghai, Beijing, Canton and Bangkok. With the pianist Rie
Tanaka, he performed in Sapporo and Tokyo.
Roeland
has always had a great interest in jazz and pop music. He recorded Friedrich
Guldafs Concerto for Cello and Wind Orchestra with the German Jugendblasorchester
Nordrhein-Westfalen after joining them on their recent American tour. His
composition Mellow Cello explores the wealth of pop-music and was
uniquely written for this band.
Roeland Duijne plays a Giuseppe Sgarbi cello made in 1853.
